I really love this business because every job is new, personal, and always a challenge. My work is so rewarding in that I get to bring my client’s ideas to life.
Artisan General Contracting started in 1983 when owner, Roy Schabauer, decided he liked being on the job site better than at a drafting table. Roy began in the direction of architectural design and realized that his hands on and creative approach was very effective and that he was quickly in demand. In the beginning Artisan did very well building fences, sheds, and garages for home owners in Mississauga and Oakville. Over the years Artisan took on more challenging renovations and remodels for both residential and corporate clients. By 1992 Artisan was a licenced general contracting company employing dozens of employees and trades and contractors and managing several jobs at a time. In 2003, after a trip to Fenelon Falls, Roy and Shelly, his wife, fell in Love with the area and decided to move their young family and business to Cameron, Ontario. At first it was tough finding new clients close to their new home which is very much a Summer holiday population and Roy was making the long drive to the old neighbourhood more often than he would have liked. Now Artisan General Contracting is primarily focused on servicing the local community North of Lindsay, East of Lake Simcoe, and West of Pigeon Lake – see below for a list of Locations Artisan Services.
Artisan General Contracting continues to work really hard at building a great reputation with the local businesses and residents and Summer home owners. Artisan’s core competencies include understanding their customer’s requests and having the ability to visualize how it will look when the job is done and seeing the job finished to a “T” and working within the provided budget and setting up reasonable expectations. Artisan truly believes that the finished project has to look exactly like what the customer wants.
